Starting out

Players will enter the game where they will find themselves in the main base.  In order to be able to leave the base one will have to go through basic training.  Basic training will include training in each of the 3 basic classes with such lessons as still target shooting, gathering, basic building, etc...  After basic training is completed then players will have the option to participate in simulation battles, which can be set up by the players and will include options for pvp or solo work in order to hone skills, or going into the field which will be a large and immersing environment where the necessary work of building, gathering, recon, etc.. will occur.  Players will need to realize that very few things in the game are meant to be permanent, that buildings are going to get destroyed, and that they will get frozen by enemy players and hostile npcs.

The first aspect of basic training will be movement, followed by gathering and basic block stacking for stair cases and walls.  I envision a small room of no more than 10 meters and possibly some voiceovers explaining each function.  Because is it possible that players of all skill levels will be playing and some will need an explanation for each and everything a menu option for each skill and could be made to include everything.  This tutorial could be skipped as an option, but all players will have to demonstrate the various skills by accomplishing an obstacle course before progressing onward.  Before entering the field though a player will need to demonstrate a basic knowledge of game play in the simulator.  This will require some players to act as trainers/drill sergeants.  This should provide a way to vet players so griefers (a person who intentionally destroys structures or landscape), trolls (a person who intentionally works to create strife and discord in a population), and general troublemakers won’t make it into the actual battlefield, and while it won’t be perfect it should keep it relatively civil.  Also in keeping with a military mindset anyone working against their faction in any way or is inappropriate in any way would be viewed as traitors to the cause and have field privileges revoked.  This would mean that people will need to have the mission of the military made fairly clear.  The game is going to be like a giant game of risk with players taking the role of the playing pieces.  Being in the field will mean that a player needs to be committed to playing the game and working towards the goal of control of as much of the field as possible.

I envision the main base to be a functional place where general gathering can occur.  The base will radiate out from the entrances to the field.  This place doesn’t have to be very large, and I would like the entrances to the field fairly close together.  It is important to have more than one in the event that enemy forces camp the entrances.  It will mean that enemy forces will have to travel a much longer distance to or split their forces if they want to hold people in the main base, making the action very difficult.  And since teleporting to connected hexfields is possible guarding the entrance will be a moot point anyway.
For players who don’t yet have access to the field there will be the battle simulator.  This will be very similar to basic servers found in FPS games with a maximum player participation of 30, up to 10 per faction.  In the battle simulator players will be able to play with preset options or settings.
